Beyond the Garden Happy Birthday

Using the sketch from stamping411 and the gorgeous bright paper "Beyond the Garden".

Here's how I made the simple knotted ribbon bow:

Tie the ribbon around a vase or cup with a similar diameter to the width of your card.

Slide the loop off your vase. Decide whether you want your bow to be centred or to the side of your card and cut the loop accordingly.

Fold the ends of the ribbon around your card and stick down

Simple Blossoms

I have been missing in action for some time - I made this card 2 weeks ago for LIM's challenge for a one-layer card with only 3 stamps!!  Life kind of got in the way - my son went into hospital and we've got the builders in so everything has been put on hold.  I've managed to scrape a little time aside this Sunday morning to post a couple of cards, then it'll be manic again I expect next week.

Anyway ... the red flower & vase with leaves stamps are from "Bright Blossoms" set and the sentiment is from "just Believe".

SU stamp: Bright Blossoms, Just Believe

Christmas Bauble

The challenge at justusgirls is for "generational stamping".  Sounds a lot harder than it is - simply put it means stamping an image a second time without re-inking so that you get 2 different colour tones.  I used the swirl from "Everything Eleanor" (fab, fab stamp this!) to make the branches and then hung a bauble on them from the "Tags till Christmas" stamp set.  The "curly" sentiment to complement the curly branches is from the aptly-named "Curly Cute" stamp set!

Merry Little Penguins

After perusing numerous blogs (as I am want to do for far too long!!) I had several ideas milling around my head - notably cas-ualfriday's challenge for "birds" and LIM's challenge for a "one-layer card using 3 stamps".  The penguin is from "Every Little Bit".  I piled them up into a Xmas tree shape and topped them with a star & festive greeting from "Pennant Parade".

Later whilst walking the dog I couldn't decide if a penguin was actually classed as a bird or not ... it has wings and a beak but I'm not sure that it can fly ... oh well the stamped image looks very bird-like!

Sunshine Button Flower

Using sketch #127 from skippingstonesdesign

Weh heh - it's really sunny outside - can you tell from how bright the photo is ? Gorgeous as the sunshine is, it also means you can't really see how I've stamped the background yellow card with the flower stamp.  Never mind, wouldn't wish the sunshine away for anything!  Out to do some gardening now.

I used several 3D sticky pads to make the raised "Button Buddies" flower.

Based on the sketch from cleanandsimple and the colour challenge yellow from LIM .  I'm on a roll now with my paint swatches!

When Santa got stuck in the Chimney

Using unscriptedsketches #157 and christmascardchallenges challenge with punches.  I'm not one for putting quotations on my cards, so I nearly bypassed Unscripted Sketches this week - and then I remembered this quotation from the "Just Believe" stamp set - perfect for Santa!!!

I used the Santa Suit from the "Tags till Christmas" set and added a tiny brad to make his button.  His fur edging is made using the Word Window Punch.  For the chimney, I embossed a piece of Early Espresso with the Stripes folder and then rotated it 90 degrees to make sqaures.  For the chimney top, I rounded the corners of a plain piece of Early Espresso and then scored a couple of lines on it.

Dotty Happy Birthday

Over at cas-ualfridays the challenge is for a "Simple Birthday theme".  I used up some scraps for the stars and used 3D pads to stick them onto the embossed background.  I added a couple of scored lines down each side of the card for good measure (just felt it needed that little bit more!).  The sentiment is from "Happiest Birthday Wishes".

Paint Swatch - Everything Eleanor

Using cleanandsimple sketch #189.  I used a paint swatch card with a flower from "Everything Eleanor".  The surface was a little shiny so I used StazOn ink to prevent smudging.  The sentiment is from "Just Believe".

Flashback Friday - Butterfly Card

I came across a new blog challenge site called flashbackfriday.  Makes an interesting change this one - you have to look back over your blog to find an earlier post.  The current challenge is to find your first post with butterflies.  Here goes, this card was posted on 21 January 2012 (which was also my birthday - how cool is that!)

Shabby Chic Photo Frame

WARNING ... Picture heavy post coming up !!!

This is the project I'm doing with my Craft Club next weekend.  Recipe is as follows:
  • cheap photo frame
  • sandpaper
  • vaseline
  • white satin paint
  • old sponge
  • heat tool (optional, just speeds things up)

  • First off you need to sand your frame (to allow the paint to adhere) and then wipe with a damp cloth to get rid of any dust.

  • Then smear a little vaseline (stops paint adhering) on the very edges where you want to sand the paint away later to give a distressed feel.

  • Apply white satin paint with a sponge.  For the first coat "dab" on paint for better coverage (see bottom right of photo) rather than stroking (left of photo).   I used approx 4 coats and used the Heat Tool to speed up drying  (only took approx 20 minutes).

  • Once dry, gently sand over the whole photo frame.  Then with a bit more gusto, sand away the edges of the frame until you can see the underlying wood.

  • Now have some fun decorating the frame! I used the large swirl stamp from "Everything Eleanor".  I stamped directly onto the frame with Versamark and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.  I stamped a second time with Versamark but didn't use embossing powder to give a "layered" effect.

  • I used shimmer spray to cover a piece of ivory card and used it with the "Beautiful Wings" embosslits.  I stuck these to the frame with Crystal Effects glue (this has fantastic staying power), and added a couple of irridescent beads to finish it off.

  • Do remember to "balance" your design - it usually works best to embellish 2 opposing corners, with a larger decorative area on the bottom corner and a similar but smaller decorative area on the top corner.

Thanks for popping by!

SU ink:  Versamark
SU stamp: Everything Eleanor
SU Die: Beautiful Wings Embosslits
SU other: Heat Tool, White Embossing Powder, Crystal Effects glue
