Xmas Tags

Stampin Up Tags Till Christmas, Joyous Celebrations, Pennant Parade, Handmade Xmas Tags

This week's ChristmasCardChallenge is to "pop it up" - looking at the DT's submissions I take that to mean give it some dimension!

CraftyBoots wants tags. You can get 18 tags from 1 sheet of A4; cut it lengthways at 7cm and 14cm, then cut these three strips every 5cm to give you 18 decent sized tags.

First up is the new stamp set "Joyous Celebration" with festive silver ink & bling.

Birthday Balloons

Stampin Up Patterned Party
Using RetroSketches #35 and craftyCatz wants a male card.
Stampin Up Patterned Party

The bright colours & lack of bling (although I was tempted to glitter up a couple of balloons!) means I could use this for a male or female Birthday card.

I inked the balloon stamp in yellow and then used a marker to colour in some detail on the balloons.

Have a good weekend!

Faux Porcelain

How about these delicate decorations for Xmas? You could even tie them to a present as a gift tag.
DIY crafts, Stampin Up, Xmas Decorations, Handmade Gifts, Faux Porcelain
They are made from a "faux porcelain" type dough. It dries beautifully white with a very feint shimmer. I have often made flour dough in the past but this recipe is gorgeous. The finish is really delicate. I urge you to give it a go & have some fun!
They do not need to be baked; they air dry overnight. Once dry, I softened any rough edges with a nail emery board, before threading them with ribbon.

They were all stamped before being cut out with biscuit cutters. Can you guess which SU stamp sets I used?!

Are you tempted?

RECIPE IS AS FOLLOWS:

1 cup cornflour, 2 cups bicarbonate of soda, 1 1/4 cup water.

Put in a saucepan on a medium heat. Bring to the boil, stirring continuously. When it thickens (a bit like mashed potato consistency) tip it onto a heat-resistant board. Bring it into a ball with your hands, cover with a clean damp cloth. Leave it to cool before handling. Any dough that you don't use, cover in cling film for use later. Mine was still soft and usable the next day.

This will make loads and loads. I actually halved these quantities and managed to make approx 25 decorations. It obviously depends on the size of your cutters and how thin you roll the dough etc. For reference, I rolled my dough to approx. 3mm.

Just a couple of pointers:

- stamp your design before you cut out the shapes

- use a drinking straw to make a hole for your thread

- they shrink slightly when drying so make sure they are not stuck fast to whatever they are drying on or they will crack!!!

Have fun!

Friendship Bracelets

OneStopCraft & JustKeepOnCrafting have an "anything goes" challenge & CreativeCraft's challenge is "three"

Well here's 3 photos of the steps to make an "Incredibly Quick & Easiest ever!" friendship bracelet.

You will need 3 lengths of 3 different coloured embroidery threads. Cut them 60cm long - for most people this should be long enough. Fold the 3 lengths in half and make a slip knot. It makes life easier if you then clip this to something so you have some tension to work against.

Spread the 3 colours so it looks like A B C C B A

Then bring the outermost left strand into the middle (B C A C B A)

Then bring the outermost right strand into the middle crossing over its same coloured counterpart (B C A A C B)

Continue until you have a "chevron" section that is long enough to wrap around your wrist.

Now you need to make 2 end ties to secure through the slip knot to enable you to tie the bracelet around your wrist.

Divide the 6 threads in half, with 3 colours in each half. A B C and A B C.

Plait the 3 strands for each section.

Le voila! Gift the finished bracelet to a friend!

Halloween Pumpkin

Stampin Up, Wacky Wishes, Halloween, Papercraft

PolkaDoodles wants Autumn, Let'sCraft&create wants to see dimension, AllThatScraps & InkyImpressions want anything but a card, StampinForTheWeekend, CraftingForAllSeasons & DivasByDesign want something spooky, DecorateToCelebrate & DudeTimeDoodles want Halloween and PapercraftStar wants a Halloween pumpkin. Phew!

If you'd like a go making your own, you will need a sheet of A4 cut in half lengthways (29.5 x 10.5cm). I then embossed mine for a bit of interest. Emboss half the paper and then turn it around to emboss the other half.

Then fold the paper in half lengthways (14.75 x 10.5cm) and cut it into 8 strips. I used pinking shears to give a more patterned effect.

Place 2 strips together at their centre points to make a cross shape & glue them together where they meet.

Continue gluing the remaining strips at the centre points.

Cut a couple of thin strips of green paper and curl them by pulling them against the blade of a pair of scissors to make some tendrils. If you want to add a Halloween tag, now's the time to make that. Stick the green tendrils and tag onto a scalloped circle and then glue this to the centre. This is much easier to do whilst your pumpkin is still flat!

Then the part where you feel like you could do with three hands ... Turn it over and pull all the strips up to make your rounded finished shape. I found it easiest to pull them up a quarter at a time and staple them.
Finally, cut some eyes & a wonky grin out of black card & glue them on.
Have fun!
