CASology

CAS card, bird

Guess what?! Following my win (yippee!) for week 2 over at CASology they invited me to be a guest designer this week. Here's my card. Not too hard to guess the cue word!

When designing my cards, I always think about where I place the different elements. Have a play moving them around; they will definitely look better in some places than others. The eye automatically goes to the large and dark elements first, then follows 'lines' of pattern or images around the card. For example, in my card, the eye travels from the dark bird to the light bird & again from the dark heart to the light heart & then along the twine from one side to the other.

A light coloured bird on its own is not dark/bold enough to attract the eye.

Whereas a dark bird on its own attracts the eye well.

Design rule of thirds

The "Rule of Thirds" is also helpful. Divide the area into thirds vertically and horizontally. The eye is naturally drawn to where the lines intersect. Using the lines of twine, I've kept movement along the bottom third of the card with the 2 birds placed more or less at the intersection points.

Reason to Smile

Stampin up, reason to smile stamp
Using the sketch from iSpySketches and the DynamicDuos colour combo.
Stampin up, reason to smile stamp
After randomly stamping the flower heads in Versamark, I inked the edges of the card with white ink to add a bit of interest. This is matted on another piece of card stock which I stamped the background flower image in Versamark again and the Sandy Speckles wheel in Early Espresso. This gives a fab textured look - that doesn't come out too well in the photo! Oh well!

The new stamp set REASON TO SMILE is FREE during August when you spend £60 on Stampin Up. Contact me if you'd like more details!

Butterfly Birthday Wishes

Stampin up, fresh vintage

Using the sketch from Ipala and the colour combo #59 of coral, tan & brown from CR84FN and Cute Card Thursday challenge for a bit of distressing.
Stampin up, CAS card

I wanted to give a soft/distressed feel to the card so to soften the edges of the Coral patterned paper so I stamped the border from the Fresh Vintage set on the card beneath. I also stamped the large flower stamp in Crumb Cake behind the sentiment to give a distressed feel. The butterfly brad is FREE with this month's promotion.

Anniversary Hearts

CAS card

Using the sketch from FridayMash-up and CAS-ualFriday's challenge for a black card base and DynamicDuos call for red and black.

The Word Window punch is great for tiny little sentiments rather than fiddling with scissors and then cutting wonky edges (as I used to do!). The tiny heart is from the Owl Builder punch.

Fresh Vintage

Stampin up fresh vintage

I was aiming for a 'rustic/shabby chic' look combining the lattice embossing with the deckle edge and muted colours. The background stamp in the Everything Eleanor stamp set is fab for this effect. I stamped it first in Pool Party and then over stamped with the flowers from Fresh Vintage in Sahara Sand, then punched out a piece with the Decorative Label punch. Another Decorative Label in Very Vanilla topped this. Add a FREE Enchanted brad and a bit of ribbon and a tiny heart from the Owl Builder punch.

Xmas Stocking

Stampin up every little bit

The scalloped background to the stamped image is from the Tags till Xmas set and the co-ordinating ribbon is FREE this month if you place an order over £45!!!

I used the Blender Pen to colour in the stocking. A good tip to get some 'spare' ink to colour with is to gently squeeze the closed stamp pad, then when you open it there will be a little 'pool' of ink on the inside cover. Use this with your blender pen rather than wiping your pen on the stamp pad.
